The ICHSSA-4 project, a five-year initiative (2019-2024), is implemented by Pro-Health International as the lead organization, with Catholic Relief Services serving as a technical partner.

The project seeks to mitigate the impact of HIV and other drivers of vulnerability in Sokoto and five other states: Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Kebbi, and Zamfara.

These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of life for vulnerable children and their families by providing sustainable economic opportunities and comprehensive, integrated services. Dr. Joseph Inyang, Chief of Party for the USAID-funded ICHSSA-4 project, reiterated the project’s commitment:

“Our mission is to collaborate closely with state governments and local partners to deliver high-quality, comprehensive services to those most in need. Together, we are empowering every child to reach their full potential-ensuring they remain healthy, continue their education, and grow up in safe, stable environments.”

Dr. Inyang further emphasized the importance of this multifaceted approach: “This holistic initiative-combining health insurance, cash transfers, and vocational training-plays a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of children and families in Sokoto State. By providing a safety net and fostering economic resilience, we are building the foundation for long-term financial independence among vulnerable households.”

The official launch event featured keynote addresses, testimonials from graduates of the vocational training program, and the presentation of health insurance cards and start-up kits to beneficiaries. Dignitaries present at the event included Her Excellency, the First Lady of Sokoto State; representatives from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development; the Commissioner of Health; the Director of Budget and Economic Planning: Permanent Secretaries and Directors from various ministries; Civil Society Organizations involved in the ICHSSA-4 project; other USAID implementing partners; and other distinguished guests.
